Yaya Toure Retires - City Legend and one of the Best ever

I think Vinnie gave a superb speech at Ya Ya's last home match last season when he simply recounted the moments in which Ya Ya had changed the course of the history of our club. The media never really gave him anything like the credit he deserved and tried to force him into the strait jacket of a pure defensive midfielder for the first 3 seasons he was here. It was only his mind blowing performances of 2013-14 which began to make them realise just what a creative force of nature he was. But what I can't forget is that, on that fateful day in May 2012, we were in calm control against QPR and leading 1-0 when Ya Ya was forced to leave the game with a hamstring injury - and then how quickly and completely things went wrong, until other City legends got a grip VERY late on. Thanks for the memories, Ya Ya - all eight seasons of them.

The most consistent big game player we've ever had mate. Big praise for Bell and Oakes, even though they were before my time.

David Silva is a magician, but he disappears in big games. Bar a few assists at the 6-1, I can't remember a massive game where he's been outstanding. He's been consistent throughout the seasons he's been here and a lovely guy, but the most overrated player in recent City history in my opinion.

Absolute legend.

Love you Yaya.

Miss his runs through the midfield, he gave me so many great memories. Goal against Stoke for the FA cup will forever be burned into my memory.

He’s goal at Wembley against the rags, Newcastle away, Crystal Palace away, and lots more all very important in our development. He was a Goliath happy memories of the big man!! Enjoy what ever you do in life and thanks for being a massive part of our history

Great player on the pitch

Bit of a daft **** off it.

His work on the pitch will always be appreciated and remembered.

The greatest!

Took a little while to settle in but I remember a game in December 2010 at West Ham where, for the first time, he completely took control of the game. He bossed it, got a brace in a 1-3 win and I thought “woah hang on, what a player we’ve got here!”

From then on he was immense right up until the season when we won the title in 2014 where he was by far the best player in the country and should have easily won POTS.

For me, I don’t give a shit what people do or say, it’s what they do on the pitch that matters. And he is remembered by me for some of the biggest moments in the club’s history.

He’s the man who scored on the day everything changed. That winner he scored in the 2011 FA Cup semifinal against the Rags is the day Manchester Football changed forever.

He had an immense season the season we won the title in 2012. The two goals at Newcastle keeping it in our hands going into the last game.

He scored arguably the most beautiful goal I’ve ever seen to get us back in it in the 2014 League Cup final.

He was even better than 2012 in the season we won the title in 2014. I reckon the third best player in Europe that season.

And although his legs went and his fitness went, he still managed to come up with a defining performance, took no shit from Lallana and scored the winning penalty in the 2016 League Cup final.

Gnégnéri Yaya Touré, you are a Manchester City legend, I salute you Sir!

Enjoy retirement!

And well done to Roberto Mancini and Brian Marwood for signing him. He was the catalyst for everything good that happened. He was the name everyone wanted to come and play with.

As I said in my later post, I saw his debut here in Atlanta and turned to my City mate who came up from Florida for the match and said "fook me, it looks like we've actually found someone who can pass the ball!" ..............as he just effortlessly sprayed a ball, 50 50-60 yards from left to right, onto a players toe!

One of my best memories of Yaya was his goal at home to Villa in 2014, the roars when he set off an that run will stay with me forever
