Yaya Toure

Yaya, every trophy we've won has been mostly down to Yaya.

I hate this line, and the wider story that has crept in to this thread. Both times we've won the league we've got over 80 points. Yet people assume it was Yaya wot won it because of crucial goals at Newcastle, Palace, or wherever. It's absolute nonsense. Just because you score the crucial goal or play well in a crucial game, it doesn't mean you've been the best player over the season.

Maradona is widely aknowledged to have won the 86 World Cup on his own, he didn't score in the final though.

It's probably fair to say Yaya has been more influential than Silva in big games like cup finals and the previously mentioned Newcastle and Palace games. But you have to look at the whole picture. For the 5 years they have been here Silva has been much more consistent and played at a higher level over the whole period. When he plays well, the team plays well.

Yaya has been a brilliant player for us, but Silva is the best I've ever seen in a City shirt, and I won't let the last 6 months when he's been playing on one leg affect that view.

Awesome player and the most significant one in my time watching City including Bell Lee & Summerbee Always delivers in the big games and that swings it for me

This will be my last comment on this thread but Yaya has to be one of the most inconsistent players I've ever seen. One week he's amongst the best in the world and next week he looks like he's more of a darts kind of guy.
Maybe the last season/18 months, and maybe my interpretation of 'inconsistent' is different to yours, but Yaya has always been the heartbeat of this team. Literally everything has gone through him, all of the time.

And he has consistently delivered in big moments too.

Again, you're basing it on now when he's passed his best. In his prime he was anything but inconsistent. For what it's worth, he's been better and more consistent than Silva this season though...

Genuine question for those lucky enouh to see bell, summerbee, lee etc play, were any of them on the level of yaya, serg, david, carlitos or even joe or vinnie?
You can't compare then with now imho, the players play on carpets these days, they played in bogs back then, and still looked class. You can also add players like Doyle Oakes and Book, all great players of their time

Yaya, what a player, sad that he is so poorly thought of on here these days, I know cake gate didnt help matters but he is a footballer most other teams would love to have, we are lucky to have had him here.

The thread title is misleading, the fact that other people are suggesting other players, this would suggest it is close.
