Yaya Toure

Toure, Silva, Kompany, Hart and Zabaleta will always be legends to me.

Toure is undoubtedly our big games best player.

The cheering when he went off the other week was a disgrace.

It's not even a discussion never mind a point. By whatever metric you want to use Toure has been head and shoulders a more important, more impactful, more everything player than Silva. That's not even a slight on David in any way shape or form. He's also supremely talented footballer, just not at Toure's level. In the upcoming years it'll be the same with KDB. He'll eclipse Silva too. Because what both KDB and Toure have to go with the passing ability is the capacity to score goals out of nothing. They're pure match winners and David isn't. Again that's not slight on him.

And no so far you haven't given me an earful although I suspect that's about to change!

I'm not into making too many predictions so I am going to wait and see with KDB but if he responds to Pep...;as is often the case, I agree with you.

What I am finding amusing is the idea put forward by Yaya's "detractors" that he is somehow more inconsistent than some of his team mates or doesn't contribute in certain ways. I cannot be bothered, although I am tempted, to go back through season by season stats but I am pretty sure they will show that Yaya has touched the ball more than any other player in the team since his arrival and that his pass completion stands up to anyone. It has also been shown that barring a few exceptions, like the Yorkshire Judas, Yaya covers as much ground as others. You will also find that he regulalry recovers more ball than anyone in the team. His main job is to be the hub of the team and collect the ball and distribute it, to keep play ticking over.

One stat I love and keep repeating, because I keep hearing about Yaya's lack of contribution last season, is that of extended assists, which measures the 5 players who touched the ball before the goal scorer: Yaya was second in the league on that measure last season. Eden Hazard was first, Silva, Aguero, Nasri and Judas were 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th. I suspect that measure for other seasons would see Yaya near or even at the top of the list. There was one spell last season, around time of home Derby, when I recall commenting that almost every goal we were scoring saw Yaya crucially involved even if he did not make the final pass.

So whilst he can be a tempremental so and so, and has certainly had a few notable stinkers, I think he has been far more consistent than some would like to credit.

I agree about previous seasons.

But now his legs have gone and he's not mobile enough. he's quality on the ball, but if you can't sprint how do you escape defenders and how do you close players down when we don't have the ball?

City's game revolves around him so his dip in form has massively affected our play.

Just my opinion. Others will have their own view.
Yeah right. I'm sure we played pretty well vs Liverpool (0-3) and against Norwich (0-0).

You may not admit it but the problem with our current squad is way beyond Toure's legs.

Toure has been our greatest ever player. The arguments start when you consider what he offers the team now, and not 2-3 seasons ago

We should have been pro-active, instead we tried to prolong his playing career with us which was a massive mistake

Of this generation? I would have to now agree.

Silva's drop off in the last two years has revised my opinion.

We made the same mistake United did with Keane and Scholes.

We thought Yaya could go on forever, but freaks of nature are exactly why they are considered freaks.

There are other problems. Mostly injury related. But the biggest problem is that an ageing Toure is still the heartbeat of City's team, and we're now at snail's pace.

Pellegrini has alternatives. we could be playing two up front in front of a combative midfield. Injuries to our midfield: Nasri, KDB and Delph have made life much more difficult. I have wondered a few times if Pellegrini would have done things differently if he had a long term future at City. i.e. had he known that he would be responsible for City in 2-3 years time, I think he would have looked to replace Toure and we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now

I understand what a great player he has been for us in the past, but he is utterly overwhelmed whenever we play a stronger team, and the team just sinks with him. We are too reliant on him and we shouldn't be. This is the coaches fault. It should have been foreseen after last season as it was evident then that he was physically declining.

IMO Yaya can play for another couple of years in the Prem..

He just need to get fit again and he will be like a new signing..

If Pep cant get him fit, then no one can..

The next pre season will see if Yaya still has the motivation to play at the top.
