But that's not good. Gerrard remained Liverpool's most important player in his final season even when his legs had goneI agree, and for me he is still the most important player in the team.
This season, and last the legacy was tainted by what was done out on the pitch. We were lucky enough to snare him in his prime and for a relatively cheap fee. He's been here for each and every part of our recent success and has been pivotal in each. Best game I've seen him play was Newcastle away April 2012. Even rags were in awe of that master class.
That said, he isn't going to last forever and age is catching him out now in games we need that Yaya from 4 years ago. It's been a fucking huge pleasure having this player, but this summer should be where he says farewell and we say bye to a legend, otherwise some of our more fickle fans will go all out to taint what is a perfect legacy.
Not for me. That doesn't mean I think he's played well, but however bad he's been it's not enough to taint what he's done for the club. This season, and last the legacy was tainted by what was done out on the pitch.
Perhaps that is wrong. It's Pellegrini who picks the team, but the decision to carry on playing him, when alternatives are available has compromised the team and left us with a team that is really really struggling despite the presence of some really great players. Not for me. That doesn't mean I think he's played well, but however bad he's been it's not enough to taint what he's done for the club.

De Bruyne, Nasri and Silva are outstanding technical players. Delph and Fernandinho (and Fernando) are very strong physical players. Navas, Sterling were available for long tracts of the season. Out of that pool we had a top quality midfield. And yet Pellegrini opted for a player who can't sprint over these players. It was a massive decision and it's the single biggest reason for our poor season. It could yet be rescued but Pellegrini has already nailed his colours to the wall. He isn't going to move now.
The Premiership is the most physically demanding league in the world. You can't carry anyone, and physically Toure is at times miles off the pace, and to make him semi-effective we have to make compromises that damage the effectiveness of other players. Physicality matters. Quality cannot survive without it, otherwise players like Ronaldinho, and Kaka would play on forever. Toure's game, because of the sheer size of the man, fell off a cliff as soon as his engine failed, and the manager was too weak to deal with it hence the endless Toure topic. Every City fan knows just how important he has been to MCFC over the years. I am convinced we wont progress until we move on. I seems we have to wait for Guardiola.
