Yaya Toure

As long as Pep get rid of Silva I will be happy , most overrated City player ever , whilst Yaya is so underrated I don't get it

I truly believe we would not have won what we have won without Yaya. He was the catalyst on the playing side to putting us where we are on the map. He promised us trophies and delivered. Replacing him is a big problem and I think some are now recognising as he fades and is out injured more what a future without Yaya would look like. It's not great and we need to replace him with someone else who is a winner. The problem over the past coupLe of years is not necessarily the standards of players although some are questionable no doubt but that missing winning mentality. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch Yaya and he deserves to be talked about as a 'city great'. Thank you Yaya you will never be forgotten!

We were lucky enough to snare him in his prime and for a relatively cheap fee. He's been here for each and every part of our recent success and has been pivotal in each. Best game I've seen him play was Newcastle away April 2012. Even rags were in awe of that master class.

That said, he isn't going to last forever and age is catching him out now in games we need that Yaya from 4 years ago. It's been a fucking huge pleasure having this player, but this summer should be where he says farewell and we say bye to a legend, otherwise some of our more fickle fans will go all out to taint what is a perfect legacy.

I agree, and for me he is still the most important player in the team.
But that's not good. Gerrard remained Liverpool's most important player in his final season even when his legs had gone

De Bruyne, Nasri and Silva are outstanding technical players. Delph and Fernandinho (and Fernando) are very strong physical players. Navas, Sterling were available for long tracts of the season. Out of that pool we had a top quality midfield. And yet Pellegrini opted for a player who can't sprint over these players. It was a massive decision and it's the single biggest reason for our poor season. It could yet be rescued but Pellegrini has already nailed his colours to the wall. He isn't going to move now.

The Premiership is the most physically demanding league in the world. You can't carry anyone, and physically Toure is at times miles off the pace, and to make him semi-effective we have to make compromises that damage the effectiveness of other players. Physicality matters. Quality cannot survive without it, otherwise players like Ronaldinho, and Kaka would play on forever. Toure's game, because of the sheer size of the man, fell off a cliff as soon as his engine failed, and the manager was too weak to deal with it hence the endless Toure topic. Every City fan knows just how important he has been to MCFC over the years. I am convinced we wont progress until we move on. I seems we have to wait for Guardiola.

This season, and last the legacy was tainted by what was done out on the pitch.

Not for me. That doesn't mean I think he's played well, but however bad he's been it's not enough to taint what he's done for the club.
Perhaps that is wrong. It's Pellegrini who picks the team, but the decision to carry on playing him, when alternatives are available has compromised the team and left us with a team that is really really struggling despite the presence of some really great players.

Look at his stat this season, its very impressive for CM.

Goals, assists, key passes, dribbles per game, passing accuracy....etc

I hate Yaya's agent, and I hate Yaya's attitude and statements sometimes, but he is still the most important player according to my eyes and the stats support it too.

Brilliant post.

You can just about get away with carrying a lazy forward if he's getting you 20+ goals a season (e.g. The fake Ronaldo) because they're like rocking horse shit but not a central midfielder. As the saying goes "you're only as good as your biggest weakness" and Toure's lack of legs is ours and has been for years.

Trying to paper over the cracks by having Fernando and Fernandinho in midfield with Yaya still leaves you down to 10 men for large periods of the game but people are still clinging onto the hope that will transform him back to the Yaya that scored 24 goals in one season, it won't, the lad is finished as an effective player for anything more than 10-15 minute spells.
