For a lot of reasons yesterdays defeat hit me as hard as any other derby defeat since I was a kid, but I don't want to dwell on that, it's gone and I'm about to go into the garden and take out my frustrations on some overgrown bushes.

There is no doubting that for City to be challenging for 4th place at this late stage of the season it is a great achievement, more so when you look back at our recent history even only the last few years. However it's also fair to point out that with the money we've spent then chasing 4th spot should be a given and to that extent I would agree. So rather than look into individual performances or games because I have seen enough this season on and off the pitch to make my own judgement I would hope the following happens in the close summer.

Firstly and most importantly we install a manager permanently and make a statement of intent that it is a long term appointment be that Mancini or another. This will enable whomever it is to stamp his own authority onto the club from top to bottom, weed out those not intent on following his mandate and build a team around him that he trusts and they in turn understand his methods. The current situation cannot continue that much longer as surely it must be affecting the stability and mindset of some players and staff members.

No doubt this term has been successful with regards the progress of developing the squad and the results overall - yes certain individual games need analysing and learning from - but a quick look at the three teams challenging for the title shows we still have a long way to go. Both mentally and physically we need to strengthen the squad and we need to develop a whole lot more as a proffessional club and how we go about certain aspects of our business if we really want to win trophies at the very highest level. Personally half of yesterdays team at best should eventually become squad players or move on elsewhere as we strenghten all round.

Take a look across the road at our neighbours and look at the way Fergurson has built his dynasty. It may appear to be an aggressive, bullying, imposing nature yet at every available opportunity he enhances Uniteds persona by telling the world just how big a football club they are. I used to hate him for it but now I understand how its worked in his favour. His players if they don't follow his rules then they're out, he's made footballers want to go there and once there understand that anywhere else is second best both on and off the pitch. He's also very importantly protected the players that support him and in turn they are fully supported by the club, rarely do they appear in the press for bullshit stories whilst at United. Its no coincedence they have been the dominant force in English football for so long.

Everybody in world football is now well aware of the spending power of Manchester City Football Club and of our intentions and it should only be a matter of time before the breakthrough is made but we have to work at it and make it happen together.

This is the essence of EPL footy over the next few seasons. The buying power opens any old door, no matter how tightly shut it seems. Getting the players and manager to mould into a winning team is not simply a matter of money. But the improvements on both counts over the last two seasons is staggering. There is no other team in the EPL which has been transformed as much as MCFC. I can smell the silver polish!

After another inept refereeing display in favour of one of the Sky four, I think the Sheikh should just break the bank this summer, blow everyone out of the water and just buy the league.

Eg. Send Ireland, Santa Cruz and £60M to Liverpool in exchange for Gerrard and Torres.

Very good op imo, and one that almost everybody on here should be able to agree with. The BIG question that you don't answer is who is the man to lead the club over the next few years. Yesterday convinced me more than ever that we need, to put it bluntly, an arrogant bastard at the helm. Someone who believes himself to be the best and transmits that belief to his players. In my opinion, we've reached the stage where there's little to choose between our squad and Uniteds, yet we've come unstuck to three late goals against them this season. This can't be coincidence or bad luck. It has to be that, when push comes to shove, our players don't have the belief required to go that extra mile that it takes to beat a side like United. Mourinho would instill that belief and get this place buzzing. If he's available it's a no-brainer for me.

Great post Josh.

The key is managerial stability. And not just any manager, but a manager with the strength of character to manage the players both publicly and privately. There's too much uncertainty around the place at the moment.

Great OP and Billy's post is spot on too, the underlined bit being ultimately the crux of the matter.

Once Sheikh Mansour gives his blessing to whichever manager he selects as being the first permanent appointment of his ownership the club can move forward in unity.

Getting 4th this season would be a welcome bonus however I have no doubts we will challenge for the title next season.

Bollocks!!!! Talking common sense isn't part of the deal on here and there is far too much of it in this post. Oh, btw, agree with all of the above!

Since the takeover we have not really had any stability: Hughes not their oppointment and Bobby a stop-gap! Even in a typically fast paced derby game, Taggart wasn't afraid to call on his old guard yesterday. As much as we might hate 'em, Giggs, Scholes and Chuckle know how to see-out, and steal, games for their club

Without deliberately making links to personal friends of yours, there are a number of players at the club who clearly don't know what the future holds for them and their form reflects this. Stevie, Sean and RSC all look like players who are currently carrrying the weight of the world and, in my opinion, seem affected by uncertainty!

Stability is the key.Like i said in another thread today, until we get this, and have a manager who can work at the club for years and run the club how he wants, just like Ferguson,Wenger,or even Moyes, then we wont go anywhere!

Whether it's Mancini or whoever I just hope it's sorted sharpish. The ideal for me would be an announcement as soon as this season ends.

Soild and sensible post from the OP
WTF are you doing on here mate ;)

I agree with all the sentiments and I think that in the interests of such stability Mancini should stay.
I personally have seen enough from him to suggest that when he is given a few quid to bring the players he wants into the squad we will continue our upward trajectory.

This season is already a success in my book...Record points total for our time in the premier league, bagfuls of goals and still in with a real shout of CL qualification.

The season is nowhere near over and Spurs cannot continue to play out of their skins like this every week. Just look at their recent Sunderland trip. After all their heroics it would be just like the Spuds to lose at home to Bolton...with a certain Vladimir Weiss scoring a wonder goal wineer ;)

i am reflecting in the cold light of day, that if you had offered any city fan at the start of this season , 1. a top six place
2. europa league next season.
3 a cup semi final.
4 youg players in their prime signing for this club and therfore able to give there best years to us ie AJ and if the papers are to be believed boetang from hamburg

then 99 % would have ripped your arm off, so why despair, we have made massive progress.

if we knick 4th and get champs league, we might draw a top club and fail to qualify for group stage, europe adventure over with a wimper

finnish 5th we are seeded for europa league gaurenteed at least 6 games and could reach knock out stage

vital experience for squad, still able to offer eurpoean footie to prospective signings and high profile nights for club

so hey remember where we have come from and lets get real, 5th will be awesome and next season we will kick on and top 3 is a reality

the future is city and that is what scares sky, bacon face and everyone else

one more season wont hurt, hey weve been waiting since 1970 so come on lets get siging the blues
