You are the ref

No. 1 kinda depends what your defination of been civil is. But I'm with you on that one in principle.

No. 2 If I'm having a party, I will tell everyone to bring nothing and if anyone does anyway, it's a bonus. Don't invite people round if it's a condition that they have to bring there only drink. Or at the very least, let them know it's a condidition.

Piss poor on the first incident, the 2nd one however you were bang on the money. We did a BBQ yesterday and despite having enough booze in for all concerned, everyone brought at least a bottle of wine because that's just the thing to do, isn't it? One thing you should have done though when he saw his arse is use the words 'tight ****'.

Agree with you in principle but in reality you didn't handle either situation very well.

1. Opportunity missed. Rag at your house, on his best behaviour cos he's with the wife and kids at her workmates house. Oh dear, a world of pisstaking ideas missed.

2. Remind me to bring my own hot dogs if ever I get invited to yours for a barbie.

Most people wouldn't turn up empty handed to be fair, but by the same token you as the host shouldn't expect people to bring booze and then see your arse if they don't.

This, sort of.

Even if the wife says 'don't bring anything' it still would have been nice for them to bring a bunch of flowers or chocolates even if no booze. Equally, even if she had said 'don't bring any booze ' it would still have been nice for them to bring a bottle even if not for drinking there and then but just to show their appreciation of your hospitality.

But since they didn't, there were better responses than 'oi, twatface, the Offy's over there'. So you were out of order, but they started it.

(You must have been pissed off already by the lad who turned up at a blue house wearing red shorts...)

Plus, if your missus has got to stand next to freeloader's missus at the school gates, she won't enjoy that. I'm guessing she (not you) invited them, so for her to say 'come on over, we're having a barbie' and for you then to follow it with 'fuck off this isn't a soup kitchen' does sort of put her on the spot.

You missed a golden opportunity with the 1st matter, especially as ale was flowing. You could have used the revelry as a great excuse to rip him a new one. Do you want 6 hotdogs or just 1? etc

Second matter, everyone knows its just being polite to tell someone not to bring anything. All self respecting folk bring a bottle or two or/and some cans.

So when u lot moan about women and they always say one thing but mean another, you are basically hypocrites ?

"She told ne not to make a fuss on her birthday so I didn't , now she's in a mood with me"

So when you tell someone not to bring something to a BBQ and they don't you get the hump about it ?
