Different players but to say De Bruyne didn't hit the levels of Zidane is bollocks. Zidane was an incredible player undoubtedly but he retired 20 years ago and the stature of a player is elevated with time. Both have won a similar amount of trophies in their career at club level. Both probably have similar output in terms of goals and assists as well.

De Bruyne is still fresh in the mind for people and not quite at the same level he used to be. But in 20 years you'll look back and remember those driving runs before he smashed the ball past the keeper. Or an assist from a pass that you could barely see from the stands let alone when you're on the pitch.

Yeah but you have to compare their club careers. Zidane played in a French side with quite a few other great players in it. As good as Belgium's golden generation was, it wasn't anywhere near as stacked as that French team. He also got sent off in another WC final that they should have won.

It's what happens over time. People have fond memories of players they saw when they were young. The game changes over time but most people have a nostalgia for former players and hold them in higher regard. I don't know if some of the former greats were as consistent as some modern players, but they have certain games or moments that just elevate them. As I said, give it 20 years and De Bruyne will be talked about as one of the greatest ever midfielders. Like Zidane he could do things with a football that most wouldn't dare to even try.
 
Impossible this and a lot of the names quoted suggest we didn't exist pre 2010. Hard to pinpoint 4, all contributed in different ways. Someone like the goat was huge in getting us back to the prem, Morrison huge in the division 2 promotion. Out of all of them teams, over all of them years to list 4 would be unfair, but I will give it a go and contradict my first sentences.

Probably one of the hardest questions city related I’ve ever answered this.

Aguero - 93.20 nothing more to be said.

Pep - greatest manager we have ever had and probably ever will have.

De Bruyne - don’t think we will ever see a greater central midfielder grace the premier league ever again, absolutely blessed for him to have played 10 years for us.

Dickov - just about pipped Rodri because as much as that goal in Istanbul will be iconic as a city fan, if Paul didn’t score that goal in 99 I honestly believe we wouldn’t be where we are in the present day.

Too many honourable mentions but Zaba, Yaya, Vinny, Goater, SWP, Spannish Dave all miss out. (I’m only 31 so never got to see bell summerbee etc, or I’m sure they would be within a shout.) certainly my dad would say so anyway.
