You're the Judge...

I'm not going to make a comment until others do, but what do you think is going on in this video?

What can you see and what's your verdict (don't let the title sway you)?

I haven’t read any responses.

My take.

The guy is suspected of doing something, sounds like she asks him if he was at ‘swings’ or ‘swinks’, he probably fits description so she reads him his rights.

The guy sounds like he is mentally disabled and also medicating.
He doesn’t like being touched, gets easily agitated and aggressive, he mentions or alludes to sexual assault, so maybe he’s been abused as a kid.
The mother helps to try and calm things down and is partially successful.
The guy calms down but doesn’t want the cuffs on.
The officer forces the issue, even though she knows backup is on the way and only needs to keep him calm a few more minutes, but even so she tries to make the arrest and the guy turns violent and over powers her, she then tries to get control of the situation by bringing out the gun.
Mother steps in the way so she can protect her son, thinking officer won’t shoot.
It all gets out of hand as officer loses control of situation, shoots wildly a couple of times and hits the mother.
Back up arrives and immediately suppresses the guy.

In summary, a shitshow as a result of the officer not calming the situation and then forcing the arrest when she didn’t need to.....due lack of experience most likely

The mother called the police in the first instance and the suspect was known to them as he had been recognised on security footage. It is impossible to make a judgement call on what happened without this information as prior behaviour of the individual may be a factor in why the deputy handled it that way and how it ended so badly.

She also took a whack to the head in the struggle which might have contributed to her clumsiness at the end.

A basic summary of a lot of societies problems, more so in law enforcement. It's a fundamental inability to communicate, to revert to anger before reason, exponentially worse in stress situations.

Imo, Any law enforcement person should be fully trained in stress condition communication way before they are allowed to pick up a gun. There should be very few situations where a good trained communicator can't "talk down" a high stress situation.

Look at the training a Norwegian prison officer has to go through and then compare it to this copper, yet one is allowed a firearm and the other doesn't even need it.
