Zidane

Truly gifted player.
Head butting an Italian racist only increased my admiration for him.
Err?.? Didn't Matterazzi say he wanted to give Zidane's sister one or something like that?

I'll never forget a goal he scored for R Madrid V Deportivo. He took on 3 players in the penalty area and beat the 'keeper at the near post

Opinions vary on their exchanges, but Zidane told L'Equipe that he made reference to his mother, namely 'putain arabe', or 'arab whore'.
If that was the case, I'd have chinned him too.

Another version runs that Materazzi was pulling Zidane's jersey and Zidane told him he'd have to wait until after the match if he wanted the jersey, Materazzi told Zidane it was his sister, not his jersey he wanted, Zidane headbutted him.
Funny as it was, Materazzi came out on top in that one imo, winding up the lad you're marking into getting himself sent off is the oldest trick in the book.

Did he track back?
Nope, just never lost the ball ;)
For a lot of games this statement is literally true. I once counting how many times he lost the ball in a game. The answer was 0. Unbelievable for a creative player.

For me only a young Ronaldo before his knee injuries was better than him. Would have him over Messi and Cristiano.

One of my fav players, he just glided and the biggest complement you can give the guy is he never looked like he broke sweat, controlled the tempo to suit him.....

Poor reference earlier in the thread re:his peak, most zidane fans will point to his juve career, when at the time some of the best defences in the world could be found, the World Cup final 98 was tainted by the Ronaldo/nike farce, not a prayer France win that game with a fit Ronaldo on the field, however great zizou was!!!

He did that with Bellamy too when he was playing for Newcastle. Not sporting.
