Academy/CFG Profit

Were none of them good enough for the first team?
No otherwise we would have kept them

The academy setup at City is almost primarily there as a source of growth, with either players coming through into the first team, or being sold for fees that more than offset the investment we've made into them.

I can't think of an academy system in all of England that works as well as ours, and is therefore able to generate the returns that we do.

Now and then you'll get a gem of a player who might make it to the first team, but there is no sentiment in business or football, and we should never shoehorn players into the first team squad just to please a few people that want to see 'local lads' around the first team.

FYI a lot of them aren't as local as you think

Chelsea pretty good at the same game i.e. income plus gem.

Where did you get that? It’s a genuine question. We spent all that time scouting and developing yet brought few through. Palmer is off to Chelsea yet we sign new players.

It’s great when a local lad (or locally based) breaks in to the first team. Foden is really popular.
Such a shame re Palmer...always seemed like Pep was not that keen on him, shame as it would be so much more fun having 4 / 5 local lads playing one day. The one he seems to like ..Rico Lewis..is the one i think struggles the most technically

We have made nearly 450m since Pep's arrival from our conveyor belt of talent that is the Academy.

Amazing stuff.

Think you should give @BlueCityBrain on X/Twitter the credit for this m8. He's established himself as the "go to" for all his transfer spend info.

He posts on here as well but can't remember his handle. Anyone know?

Edit: @BlueBrain on here

It is obvious that The Academy is not just there to produce players for City, the aim is develop good all round people who get a good education in football, life skills and academia that will earn a good living in the profession. See it as a top school that we have first choice of the best pupils The bonus is that it also pays for itself and helps fund the transfer kitty
