Has the premier league burst its own bubble ?

They're still attracted by/obsessed with the Liverpool/Arsenal/Scum "brands" that they've become blinded to the other rising talents within the league. Chelsea was a keen distraction and added some interest and oomph to what was becoming a stale league (since it was obvious Arsenal had started to lose steam and Liverpool, despite their UCL win in 2005, still weren't cutting it). Despite this, they were still the brands to promote.

Even then they never really saw or wanted Chelsea dominating, and whilst they upset the Utd apple cart a few times, they didn't dominate the league to the same degree Manchester City have this past decade. It would mean shifting promotion of the Utd brand as the 'face' of the PL to Manchester City.

They don't like this, they don't want this and with Utd falling into mediocrity they've begun to panic about a City dominated PL, even though we've been in mutliple entertaining title scraps with Liverpool in the last 10 years. The PL doesn't want to move with the times, they want something they can market with regularity, and despite City being the most consistant performer in the last decade, their preference is still tied to opinions of those still plagued with stubborn, archaic, mindsets who believe it's still the late 90's/early 2000's.

They promote the Scum even when they're poor, and whilst it gets the PL attention, it's not one of adoration but of amusement. They want people to admire the PL the same way they did in the 2000's, problem is they have been focusing on the wrong teams, because those same teams back in the 2000's just dont cut it anymore.

A cursory view of American sport I can the American owned clubs breaking away to form their own league, which only allows them in ! It will be called the English World Series ;)
Sport in America is absolutely shite.
Rugby with shoulder pads .
Rounders.
World series pathetic .
And no they're trying to ruin a sport they don't even know what it's called

Cracking post mate, covers everything thats what is wrong with the present day PL, it’s so frustrating that they can’t see it or won’t see it.

Pretty much on the money there

Good post

They want Liverpool to win the league. They are desperate for this and will keep changing rules. Now that Klopp is leaving expect the onfield decisions to favour Liverpool even more. If Liverpool fail to win it this year then the rules will change again to get them a title so the cash cow comes a rolling from the red customers. Premier League and Sky do not want City winning 4 titles on the bounce and showing up their darling teams in red.

Look at the commentry on sky for games. A player dives and is called a cheat and rightly so. A Liverpool player dives and they go on about how there was contact, how he had a right to go down. Jota is not even trying to hide his faking a dive and he is getting penalties, even after VAR looks at them. That is not bad grapes from an Everton fan, that is fact. Everyone who watches football can see it yet the media, Sky, PL, and kopite cult brush it under that magic hiding carpet. And they moan that nothing goes their way, and they moan that unlike other teams they have to build a team without spending any money, and the media, Sky, PL all go along with it. Can people not see the trend, the bias?

The league is not a fair league. Newcastle are not allowed to spend and challenge the apple cart. Chelsea can play spending how they like, United I hear rumours of huge debts? if true, why no investigation. City and their 115 Charges that must be mentioned as 115 charges every day on Sky as City are very naughty and win things. City are allowed to be called cheats even though nothing is proved. If Liverpool are called cheats then it is a hate crime towards Hillsborough. Am I lying? We now have transfer windows where teams are too scared to buy players in case they get a charge. It is pathetic.

I have waffled on, I need to sit down with coffee. Come on City, win the league and save us football fans from the horror that could happen come May.

It's only a matter of time before there is a new model for football.
Current model not too dissimilar to the game's 19th Century origins - the EPL in 1992 being the first major change in order to retain the money by the "big" clubs.
The EPL is not the be all and end all and a European league is inevitable because it's all about money.
Structured on a franchise model as per NFL and funded by TV/corporate money as per NFL.

When there is a large enough group of current clubs they will abandon their current leagues and away they go.
We could all name the likely first dozen now.
Local/current fans will be irrelevant as per NFL where the franchise owner will simply up sticks and relocate as they choose.
No need for promotion and relegation. A starting group will invite franchises/teams to join and expand the competition for a payment.
Players will play fewer club games, meaning a FIFA World Super Cup will be more likely and the new model will get FIFA support.
The most valuable NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys who haven't won a Super Bowl for 30 years - you don't need total success to make money. And money will drive this.

The Red Devils, The Hotspurs and The Gunners could be franchised anywhere.
The Cityzens less likely (I would hope) as our owners understand football.
American owners are the real threat, they don't understand that football is built on local rivalries, promotion/relegation jeopardy, community ownership - not just in England but all over Europe.

Hopefully not in my lifetime.
Please relocate the Holy Red Shites far far away from my city

Great post.

The bit about 2000's is bang on.

Lots of clubs with new stadiums, better facilities etc. Yet the pl still hang onto to old clubs dippers and rags. With shitty stadiums, poor facilities, stuck in the passed. These two shit statiums havent even got big screens, just bigger versions of Luton ground.

The pl doesn't deserve all these new stadiums and facilities. But bizarrely these clubs keep voting for rule changes that are designed to screw them and keep the old dinosaur clubs in control.

Not yet, but like any house built on sand it’s an inevitably.
My guess would be sooner rather than later at this point.
