Each managers best signing

My opinion of the last 20 years-ish.....

Pep - Sane (so far....)
Pellegrini - KDB (but it could have been Negredo and could end up being Fernandinho or Sterling)
Mancini - Silva (but Aguero and Yaya are pretty close IMO)
Hughes - Kompany (although he also signed Zabba, Barry and De Jong, and Robinho was a statement of intent even though it didn't really work out)
Eriksson - Elano (and I rated Corluka too)
Pearce - Hart (and Vassell was good business for the price)
Keegan - Benarbia (but Anelka, Bosvelt and James were good signings)
Royle - Goater/Dunne joint best signings (but Morrison and Bishop were great signings too)

And, honourable mention for Kevin Horlock and Gerard Wiekens, both signed by Frank Clarke IIRC.
I know Robinho came while Hughes was managung us. But I'm not convinced he could be classed as "a Hughes signing". As you implied, that signing was indeed a statement of intent. And I would guess our owners, and Garry Cook, were behind that episode. Robinho wouldn't strike me as the sort of player Hughes would buy. His best buy would be between Komps and Zabba.

You've obviously forgotten Clark signing Bradbury, I'll never forget the excitement ; -)

Hughes- kompany
Mancini- Yaya/Silva/Sergio can't decide

Looking back, mark Hughes deserves a lot more credit for the signings he made. He brought in established premier league players and players who were essential to our 2012 and 2014 winning teams.

Kompany, zaba, de Jong, Barry, lescott, tevez.

Bellamy, swp, kolo, and adebeyor weren't too bad either.

Royle - Morrison
Keegan - Anelka
Pearce - Hart (But the signing of Mpenza was crucial)
Erikson - Benjani (just for his goal at Old Trafford)
Hughes - Hard to argue against Tevez but Bellamy was a also a good signing.
Mancini - Yaya Toure
Pellegrini - Fernandinho
Guardiola - Sane & Jesus in equal measure

Going back to the dark ages...

Royle - Hard to say, Goater, Dunne, Morrison
Clarke - Horlock
Coppell - did he make any signings?
Ball - Kinkladze (wasn't anything to do with Ball though)
Horton - Rosler - also signed Walsh, Beagrie, Karl, Gaudino and Summerbee
