Brighton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Missed the game tonight as my mum passed away earlier this evening. She was a massive blue and big Dennis Law fan. That’s why I’m a blue. Thanks to pep and the boys for doing her proud. CTID

Last manager who City fans really wanted sacked

Pearce was horrific! Hughes was only ever a stop gap and although I didn’t warm to him he did ok. Sven did a solid job. The last 3 have all been title winners so forever have credit in the bank. Pre Hughes (in my lifetime) it was a motley crew.

You can build a system like that. The DRS in cricket is a good example. It’s actually built to correct obvious howlers by the umpire but crucially built in is an acceptance that on the subjective even tech can’t give the correct answer so umpires call can be factored in Any overhaul of VAR...

It's certainly "better" (quicker) but what's the margin of error? If we don't know that then how do we know that it's ok to use?

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

You basically don’t need a VAR room at all if you treat VAR as tool to help refs make better decisions. You just need tech guys to cue up footage and the ref can then view it. I’d put a 1 minute clock on those on the basis that if you can’t decide it in a minute your original decision is likely...

Surely you’re not suggesting that a former referee may have been suspect from an integrity perspective………? :-)

Again I sort of agree but end up disagreeing. The chagrin with poor VAR decisions is that with tech available, which refs don’t, they STILL get it wrong The other killer for me is that there are actually sensible things to be done to improve things but there is no interest whatsoever in doing so

Fair to an extent but the omnishambles of VAR (how many apologies this year) is testing everyone’s patience. At what point do you take the gloves off?

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

As ever with everything VAR the rules they apply are nonsensical. Regardless of whether you agree with the partisan support rules with referees you would surely concede that if it applies to the ref it should apply to the VAR? We shall see what the outcome of it is. If it’s “how dare you...

So you aren’t concerned with the substance of what they’ve said just the way they did it? Why shouldn’t they say it publicly? It’s not good form?

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

And how do you prove things? Gather evidence and investigate. In both semi finals the integrity of the officiating has been publicly called into question. In any other industry you’d investigate. In football it’s “nothing to see here”. Why?

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

Presumably an investigation into whether club allegiance for VAR officials should follow on field official rules might be achievable? In addition, an investigation into the competence of Atwell would also be a possibility and given his track record wouldn’t be pretty for him. In any other arena...
