I never think of Pep as ever having played with 4 at the back.Didn’t Pep start off with 4-1-5?
Ederson
Walker, Stones, Kompany, Mendy
Fernandinho
Sterling, de Bruyne, Agüero, Merlin, Sané
What a fucking team that was!
Pep plays in the original football formation with the old positions being what they should be called.
Pep plays 2-3-5…

formation*
A goalkeeper (1)
Ederson
(Goalies are always omitted from modern formation setups, poor buggers!)
Two full-backs: right-back (2) and left-back (3)
Dias is the right-back and Laporte is the left-back. Or Stones right-back and Dias left-back.
(They are incorrectly called centre halves or less incorrectly centre backs. But they’re actually the full-backs because they fully play at the back, they’re the outfield players who stay the furthest back on the pitch)
Three half-backs: right-half (4), centre-half (5), and left-half (6).
Walker is the right-half, Rodri is the centre-half, Cancelo is the left-half.
(They are half backs because they don’t always stay back, aren’t the furthest back positions on the pitch, and often get forward. Whoever changed what full-back meant, and the fact it stuck, annoys me… left and right halves are definitely not full-backs or left-back/right-back!)
Five forwards: right-wing (7), inside-right (8), centre-forward (9), inside-left (10), and left-wing (11).
Let’s say Mahrez is on the right-wing, de Bruyne is the inside-right, Jesus is the centre-forward, Gundogan is the inside-left, with Foden on the left-wing.
(Inside forwards are obviously called attacking midfielders in the modern game, not too much wrong with that compared to the others)

You can draw two Ws: from 6-3-5-2-4 and from 11-10–9-8-7.
