I'm in the process of buying my first house and upon survey findings, it seems I need to get a damp proof specialist in to examine the property and provide costs on potential work required. Getting quotes upwards of £200 just to examine at present, so wondering, as this place is full of wonderful people........if there's anyone who would be able to offer some free advice on a property in Stalybridge and possibly come and have a look.

I understand if it's a flat out no, as per the above these things costs, but you don't get anywhere in life without asking, do you?

The sellers agents have offered to get someone round who they know, however I would feel more comfortable getting someone in myself if you know what I mean? Especially given the previous two houses I have rented have had damp issues and didn't really do much to resolve the situation. I just want to make sure I am not being fed bullshit if you know what I mean!

Thanks y'all!

Edit: - should anyone be OK with this, it's likely the work may go through them depending on the quotes you can provide, and on the proviso and I can get the seller to drop his asking price to cover the cost.

Used Peter Cox. Probably paid over the odds but no problems 3 years later and a 20 year guarantee on work. Pay cheap pay twice they say.
