Basically my current job finishes at the start of January and don't go back to Uni until Spetember, so bar a few essays I have little to do and i'l need a job for those 8 months. Is it worth getting an SIA license? Is work easy to come by once you have it? I have the money but unsure whether it's easy to find a job.

Money there to be made, apply now if you want licence by Jan, work there there even moreso in world cup year, need a presence, right attitude and a knowledge of who's who in town, good luck, message me if any other questions i got 15 years in the bank.

Is that because there are certain people who you have to treat differently?

Money is not as good as it used to be on the doors, if you use it to do security though the days it depend who you work for, a lot seem to be paying crap at the moment.

If your getting £11-13 an hour your alright, certain companies(Elite) are happy to pay someone £8 an hour for "a body in a jacket" as we call them, if your earning £15-20 an hour then you will be earning your money.

Getting paid 10-14 quid an hour 15 years ago, the money has either stood still or like you say with Elite it has gone backwards, Elite was paying 12 quid an hour all them years ago, can't be arsed with doing it anymore, worse you got back then was someone swinging for you but now they pull out knives etc, use my badge to work through the days.

Good companies were paying big money and when SIA came in then everyone else caught up, i did doors 98- present but always say i became a real doorman in 2006 when i went to work in Ashton in 2006, like wild west lol

-- Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:09 pm --

You have to be diplomatic shall we say.

Interesting. I was talking to someone recently who was attacked with a sword. He worked the doors and had apparently turned the wrong person away the previous day.

Not sure this golden age ever actually existed did it mate?

I made a post on the other doorman thread about some of the things my uncle had to put up with. They included, having the bloke stood shoulder to shoulder with him, shot dead. Having someone grab him from behind and slit his throat with a Stanley knife. And been kicked into a coma for suggesting someone might want to go home and sleep it off.

This was all between the late 60's and early 80's.

I do take your point that there is a definite increase in complete fruit cakes who are quite prepared to spend 15 years in jail for a bit of unprovoked random violence though these days.

Made point in other thread about doorman and police, if i whacked someone theni'd expect cuffs, court case, alot of these scrotes get told piss off away from scene no arrests.

Thanks for your replies, NJMCFC - I'll PM you with some questions later if that's okay. I can start the course on Thursday so should have it in time for the Six nations which is a massive deal in Cardiff.
