Anyone a fan of folk music on here?

Rothbury in Northumberland has a good traditional folk festival. Nick Drake is a decent place to start along with fairport convention.

I saw Fairport at Cropredy, with Jethro Tull as main other headliner. Good weekend!

Add in Kate Rusby (as others mention), and Bellowhead were always good for a fun night out

Not really got any further than a bit of
Fairport / Sandy Denny
Roy Harper
Gordon Lightfoot
etc....
Oh and I like a bit of Bluegrass / Zydeco....if that counts?

Direct train from manny Victoria. It's a market town in the Upper Calder Valley in West Yorkshire lying only eight miles west of Halifax and 14 miles north-east of Rochdale at the confluence of the River Calder and Hebden Water. Be warned that it's a little quirky with fluorescent hair dyes, piercing of nostrils and shortness of gait:

HB is known as the lesbian capital of Britain. Yes, its quirky but there is a real good vibe in the town. Too much tourist tat, but some good specialist shops too. Some good pubs and cafes and there is even a cinema.
The Trades Club gets decent acts. Champion Jack Dupree who fled USA in the 50s and lived in Halifax used to play there regularly.
Goodish markets, look up the days.
Was once the corduroy capital of the world as a specialist shuttle was invented in the town which became very rich. A giant model of the shuttle sits in the town square.
The valley sides are precipitous and some houses require supporting by the property below. As a result, a special land law appertains to the town and 'flying freeholds' are protected.
The town floods regularly and the last few years have been devastating. Some traders have given up but most keep bouncing back. They need your support, so give it a go.

How did i forget Gordon Lightfoot? probably because i never really think of him as folk because he had a few mainstream hits. Sundown would probably be in my top 5 songs of all time.( it was a US #1)
This live version of "Summer side of life" is brilliance.
