Hi mate,
Here's a copy of an email sent to me from one of my mates who is into it
He has recently upgraded to a HD version
You have 2 options
SKY
The box that I have bought to watch Sky, is a dreambox 500s, there are many different versions of the dreambox, but this seems to be the easiest and also the cheapest, you can pick one up on Ebay for around 50 quid I think. It is a linux box and the setup is meant to be quite complicated, so as to avoid any hassle, I decided to pay a small premium and bought one all setup for 75 quid, I have read up on it quite alot, there are many forums like www.eurocardsharing.com, and my favourite www.satdownloads.co.uk.
It works by cardsharing, I.E. connecting onto someone elses card and using their info, in theory, if you had a valid subscription and a dreambox, and I had one, we could share the subscription cost, and then someone else could get one, and reduce the cost further, and on and on.
I have paid 20 quid, for one month, expensive, but I wanted to test it out and I now know it works, it`ll probably cost around 140 quid if I decide to sign up for a whole year.
Obviously, there is a risk, Sky must know about it and must be working to do something, from reading around, they are issuing people with new smartcards, but like the geeks say, if its man made it can be man broken, and it seems that the good guys are already one step ahead.
You could just replace your sky receiver with this box, and it should work, I`ll bring it round to yours one night, and we can try it.
Foreign TV Channels
If you`re looking for football only, I would recommend the Protek 9600 box with a motorised dish, its unbeatable, I have had every City game so far this year in the league and got the whole setup for about 250 quid, I did put the dish up myself which brought down the cost, check out what it clears here:
