Are we Having a Transition Season?

All will be ok, rough spell and once we get the next 3 wins under our belt, the charge will be well underway.

New players need to do better or they won’t survive here. We got to be ruthless, the best team only will accept top standards. Anyone not capable should be shown the door in Jan and the summer. If you want to play for the treble winners you need something special!

So far the jury is out on:

Rico
Nunes
Kova
Gvardiol

Possibly also Alvarez!

Walker, Foden, Haaland and Bernie alongside the backbone need to also up their game big time.

Some of the over reactionary stuff in this thread is laughable. We weren't great last night but we've had bad days in the past and came back stronger from them. With the midfield injuries and suspensions, coming up against a very good Villa side was always going to be a tough ask. We deal with times of the profile of Villa by having great control of the game and stemming the counter attacks to keep the pressure on teams and force them to make mistakes. The profile of player we had in the midfield three yesterday wasn't the profile of player for that. Pep tried something, it didn't work, end of.

Are we as good as we were last season at this point in time? No. But we're certainly not out the title race and we've been in much worse positions before and won the title. Lets get Rodri and Grealish back from suspension. Kovacic and Nunes both back from Injury now. KDB back in 3-4 weeks. Possibly another body in January. All those things happen and it'll start looking a hell of a lot rosier.

People will calm down, myself included, and will be behind the boys the next game.

Every season is different. 1 thing is certain is every player is a year older. It could mean they are developing or slowing down.

De Bruyne is struggling to keep the standards in fitness and its down to age. He will get slower, tire quicker and more prone to injuries.

Finding the next best generation players is always difficult and fitting them in always a big problem too.

This is a big one that I think people fail to mention. Three years is a long time for players that were in the later half of their 20s when we won the first of three. I keep see people saying we should have hung on to Laporte et al, but that group was getting old and eventually they have to be replaced. And it’s going to be rough. But hopefully it’s better down the line and allows us to go on another streak. We weren’t going to win another three with Laporte, Gundo, Mahrez in four years - but we might with Alvarez, Rico, Gvardiol, Doku.

There was something about the contract on offer. Did he want a two year deal, and we were only offering a one year contract? Think that's what made up his mind. With hindsight, it was a bad call by the hierarchy at the club.
Yeah think that was the case. Coming back to haunt us now for sure!

The one thing that people really forget is how young our team is. Haaland, Foden, Doku, Lewis, Alvarez, Nunes.

All of these are 25 or under, Lewis is only 19 and Doku is 21. Foden is probably the only exception in that he's won so much at a young age which is mental in itself.

I know some of them have won it all but it's really hard to judge them and expect so much of them. Haaland is probably the craziest, the lad is only 23 and he would be a Ballon d'or winner had it not been given by default to Messi. However he's starting to play a bit like he has the world on his shoulders.

I think we need to relax a bit and let the lads settle. After last year there's just no benefit to expecting so much from them because it's a big ask and it's a massive ask when very experienced players like Kev aren't playing.

We took a beating last night because Villa decided that this would be their game of the season, there's not much you can do about that. We just didn't have enough experience on the pitch to deal with it and unfortunately that's just the way it is.

World Club cup might be the kickstart. Week in warmer climate and majority of squad fully fit.

Not played many games yet with both Stones and Rodri in the 11 this season. Add Doku and those 3 make a huge difference to the set up of the side.

What the season is showing is we are reliant on key players more than ever. The subs are limited options in the last month.
