BBC GMR match commentary

It’s not great mate I agree, but those of us who can’t get to away games these days (and have p*ssed sky off) would be knackered without it. 5 live are simply obsessed with ratings (i.e. pandering to rags & red dippers) & therefore “professionally” despise City with a passion.
Fair comment. I don’t go away that often myself and although I have all the sports channels I prefer when our game isn’t televised and the only way to follow it is on radio mcr .

ooohps meant Fred mate ( worked with a bloke Ken Eyres for 20 years and I was pissed yesterday ) sorry ;-)

Not the former Belle Vue Ace from Buxton way by any chance was it? Eyre rather Eyers mind..

So many media outlets means that there are endless people trying to make themselves characters, be it on radio or television. If there is only a commentator, then invariably he tries to form a relationship with the listener, and that is done by describing the game to the person who isn’t there. The moment a third person is introduced- the all-knowing summariser, the dynamic changes, and the game becomes a sideshow to their conversation. The only summariser that seemed to know his place and value was Jimmy Armfield.

I miss hearing Jimmy, what a proper decent bloke he was, salt of the earth.

Andy Buckley's voice is as droning as f*ck. Makes a team as exciting as City sound like Rochdale.
If the station could get the rights to broadcasting United theyd sack us altogether.

Watched a documentary about Motty or Barry Davies a while back and it revealed that back in the day the commentator and summarizer shared one mic which was passed back and forth as necessary hence the summarizer was only heard sporadically.

How wonderful it would be to go back to the times when you’d only hear the sidekick occasionally when something needed commenting on.

Would be much better with.no microphones at all , most of the time.

Fuckwit pundits spoil so many games with their inane shite.
