Portnoy is a fantastic drummer. One of my dreams is that Lee and Lifeson would do a tribute to Peart Rush tour and use Portnoy on drums.

Carl Palmer is another of the all time greats.

Any of these threads comes down to personal opinion and sometimes favouritism over certain artists or bands,so many great drummers over the years most mentioned on this thread,I would lean more towards rock drummers like Powell,Paice,Peart,bonham or ward..if we are going to ask who is the best then surely Rick Allen of def leppard has to be considered as to play with one arm professionally is unbelievable after what he went through and reverting from electronic drum kit back to a normal kit makes it more unbelievable,but it’s all about opinions also a mention for elvis Presley’s drummer DJ Fontana ...
