Biggest Gaffes/Predictions in History.

Science fiction is rich picking for futuristic predictions, stuff like credit cards being foreseen in the late 1800s, and various forms of mobiles, iPads, smart phones etc etc, in various weird guises over the last 120 years or so. I think the notion of handheld convenience wasn't completely unbelievable, so my favourite goes to Huxley's overall prediction and description of totalitarian government through technology and mindless distraction.
 
Hover cars by the year 2000 - Talkativesprout 1988 (he also predicted the demise in the use of cash and money would go totally digital) so he could yet pull 1 back in injury time
