I've never heard of that happening before haha, washing machine plumbed into cold feed I imagine?

Think that was the issue mate. Very old washing machine had been plumbed into both hot and cold feeds, but new one, as you say, was just cold feed and hot feed was sealed off, which is were I assume air lock materialised.

Ah OK, alot of old hotpoint machines were dual feeds

Could be your plate heat exchanger mate, I'm no plumber so don't take my word for it, could need descaling or replacing

OK haha unfortunately there are some rogue plumbers out there, like I said mate I'm not saying it is that, but could possibly be

sounds like it could be the diverter valve, google it and check the symptons

get a old boy plumber out, the young ones cant fault find for shit mostly, they just know how to install boilers so surprise surprise, you need a new boiler.

My old mans mate is in his 70's and hes amazing cos they come from a time when they know how to actually repair shit, unfortunately hes having some health issues and packed it in but get an older plumber, pref recommended would be my advice.

Just out of curiosity. How does it work without hot water? Does it heat the water itself or does it only wash in cold water?
Genuine question as I have never seen a washing machine that doesn't have a hot and cold feed.
