best book i ever read was Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet. ideal for holiday as it is a long book. there is also a sequel but not as good as the original. it is still available. its about the building of a cathedral in mediaval England over about 50 years. sounds boring but it really isn't. it has sex, violence, intrigue etc.
