Coronavirus is "bubbling up" in up to 30 areas across the UK, Boris Johnson has warned.

The prime minister said levels of COVID-19 are "going down" in Leicester - the first city subject to a local lockdown - but Britons have to be wary of a "really damaging second wave".

"It's absolutely vital as a country we continue to keep our focus and our discipline and that we don't delude ourselves that somehow we're out of the woods or that this is all over because it isn't all over," he warned

Hopefully Boris getting really ill from Covid will be the best thing that could have happened to the UK. He will not underestimate the risks like he may well have done before. And perhaps this time we might use our island status to mitigate not open the door to the virus.

Care homes are being hung out to dry on testing

The UK's largest independent provider of social care says it no longer has access to regular testing for staff and residents because of an issue with a supplier used by the government.in a letter leaked to Sky News, Care UK chief executive Andrew Knight says there will be a minimum of five weeks before the firm is able to access another round of testing for most of its homes in England.

"We have been notified by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) that due to an issue with a particular test from one supplier, we will no longer have access to weekly testing for colleagues or monthly testing for residents", says the care boss in a letter to residents

That’s got to be very worrying.

"World class" - the cheeky bastards.

How's Germany's going as they have an app? Come to that how is the IoW faring with ours lol

Looks like apps have failed in Europe. No country has one that is doing what it's meant to - the French one is being uninstalled by a large proportion of users. The numbers with the UK track and trace look OK as it is unrealistic to think you can get close to 100%

When anyone can get a home test I can't see why they can't cover care homes, surely they have some kind of back up plan, going into September at the earliest is leaving it very late to make sure it doesn't take hold again

That was my thoughts too. I think now the problem is in the public domain a contingency solution will need to be found.!

yeah remember when this was all about “flattening the curve” so the NHS doesn’t get swamped.

so we built a load of hospitals all of which are now empty.

what is the strategy now Because I am lost with it. It just seems a micro analysis of clusters and any shred of negative news gets hyper coverage whereas when things are going well . Nothing.

I think the strategy is scare every fucker to death and hope this fucking vaccine works seeing as we have paid for it now.
