Richard Leese, Deputy Chief of Manchester Council, is saying the restrictions have led to surge in demand in local Mental Health services. He says further restrictions will exacerbate this and further damage the economy.
Been hearing a lot of evidence of this when dealing with the people who rely on our services at work. It's disturbing to hear.

He's probably not wrong but if locals are not listening and having parties in tents in the garden with minimum consequence then something will be done you can be sure. Up to the GM area to do something themselves to make it unnecessary.

for those who think Sweden has done well.

"Sweden records highest death tally in 150 years in first six months of 2020"

I don't think people over here think Sweden has done well.

It's the highest tally for 150 years, but we also has the highest population ever. It's still high but I think per head of population it's been higher much more recently. At some point in the 90s when there was a bad flu year.

Covid has ripped through care homes in Stockholm despite them shutting down early. There is a scandal brewing about the lack of treatment in the care homes - doctors ordering palliative care only, over the phone!

Stockholm accounts for about 40% of deaths with 25% of the population. The rest of the country has done comparitively better. Things are calmer now and since the start of July there has been a mortality deficit compared to the past five years for Sweden as a whole.

Edit: Large parts of Sweden are reporting no weekly cases and no weekly deaths now.

Hospital data

Ireland 7 in hospital 0 on ventilator. No change.

Wales 60 in hospital (-1). 5 on ventilator (-1).

Scotland 249 in hospital (+1) 2 on ventilator. No change.

England 516 in hospital (-7). 64 on ventilator (+1)

So in total 7 fewer patients in hospital with Covid at 832.

And 71 on ventilators. No change.

Seven days ago the numbers were 930 (98 more) in hospital and 75 on ventilators (4 more).

A minority of the local residents (and yes it’s a sizeable minority because Greater Manchester has been the worst area for non-compliance over the pandemic to date) are fooking it up for the rest of their communities. That said, a lockdown doesn’t have to be the Government response if there is evidence (and I don’t know to what extent there is) of a very damaging impact on mental health, at same time as reduced Covid admissions to hospitals.

I know yesterday the MUEN reported that an army veteran who had been a pallbearer at Lee Rigby’s funeral had committed suicide, although he suffered with mental health for awhile and Manchester has high suicide rates already.

The regional England hospital data shows minimal changes as the above suggests.

East patients down 46 to 44 still 6 on ventilators

South East patients still 52 and ventilators still 8.

South West patients still 17 and ventilators fall from 2 to 1.

London still 80 patients and 15 on ventilatotrs.

Midlands still 140 patients and 7 on ventilators

Yorks & Humber patients down from 87 to 81. Ventilator patients up from 7 to 8.

And sadly North West going wrong way (as minimally as possible).

102 patients in - up from 101. And 19 on ventilators - up from 18.

That NW ratio of patients to ventilators looks a little concerning compared with other regions. One in 5 patients v one in 20 in the midlands.
