It all depends on certain critical factors. Are we talking acceleration over a short or longer distance, with or wothout the ball?
Over a short distance, a smaller lighter player will probably be faster.
Over a longer distance, a taller more powerfully built player would probably be faster.
I took part in an experiment years ago to do with this. I think they had to divide a athlete's weight divided by the time it took to cover a specific distance with some other parameters thrown in. It was basically like a car's power to weight ratio.
With a ball at their feet, the players close control skills will make all the difference, unless we're talking ManUre's (the rich man's Wimbledon) tactic of hoofing the ball up the pitch & trying to out-pace the opposition player. Or am I being to harsh on the devil worshippers?

I reckon Balotelli is as quick as all but Lennon and Walcott.
Bale is the player I'd least like to face as he combines pace with great ability on the ball. Lennon and Walcott could fly past you, but I still don't expect an end-product from them. Sometimes they deliver, but often they make the wrong decision, or mis-control it.
Christiano Ronaldo is not that quick any more. His ankle injuries seem to have taken some speed from his game. But again he has great power. Is good in the air, and his control of the ball is 2nd to none.
