Yeah, he knows he's going to die, so he winds Walkden up knowing it's going to be the last thing he ever does.

The end scenes of the 1973 film Papillon where Mcqueen & Hoffman build rafts to escape the island, Mcqueen jumps into the sea & escapes & Hoffman goes back to tending his veg patch,
I dont cry much but it gets me everytime as when I first saw the film my dad was in the later stages of Alzheimers but was determined to fight it to the bitter end.
Quite a hard watch in places but a stunning film about not giving up.
