Sorry to dwell on the Hughes situation, but being full of brandy tonight (ran out of 'bow now I'm afraid kids, so let that be a warning, when you think your trolley is loaded enough, you still need to buy more)....

...didn't our wonderfully well behaved and utterly dignified friends at the swamp, whose manager is was so outraged at Hughes treatment, sack Ron Atkinson when they were 5th in the league?

But apparently we should eat humble pie and be happy we're 6th.

Don't think so at all. They were shit that year and a few weeks before 'Big Ron Atkinson' was fucked off they drew 1 - 1 at Maine Road (Sunday I think).

A defeat by Southampton in the League Cup sealed his fate. The thing is here, even though your original effort is bollocks, both these sackings will have a similar effect.

They went on under a great manager to win things year after year. We'll do better and remove them from the history books!

Paddy Barclay (cheif football scribe at the times) pointed out that if Utd had always practised what slur alecksh is preaching, Ron Atkinson would still be in charge. Same goes for Arsenal. Why wasn't Bruce Rioch given more time?

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has told rivals City that he will outlast 20 managers at Eastlands, having already seen 14 come and go. Ferguson, 68, has hinted he could retire within the next two years

so he thinks we will have another 6 managers in the next 2 years, hmmmm

Apparently, so my Rag son-in-law sez, is that Ferguson is outraged by City going for a replacement before they have effectively got rid of the incumbent. But Ferguson is the last one to be outraged by unacceptable behaviour. Any one could run a few hours of YouTube video to exhibit some of the worse behaviour and foul language ever to be attached to a knight of the realm.
