Foreign Film Thread!

Hi guys, can someone confirm which one to watch out of these two please?

Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1 (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411272/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411272/</a>)

or

Mesrine: Killer Instinct (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259014/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259014/</a>)

They were both released at the same time, so I don't know which is the sequel to which, if indeed it is a sequel.

My latest recommendation would be "[Rec]". Very good Spanish horror film.

I've stumbled across two polish films from 1988 directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski.

first one was A short film about killing;

the story of a young lad who brutally murders a taxi driver and then questions the morality behind capital punishment

the second was A short film about love-
about another young lad who watches an amorous lady who lives across from him in a block of flats

Apparently they are just 2 of a series of very dark, extremely thought provoking films exploring human nature and emotion.

They are filmed in a deplorably grim soviet era Warsaw, which provides such a stark background for the stories to unfold.

Going to track down the rest of the them, has anyone seen these?

Most of the films mentioned have gone straight over the top of my head.

But there's a French film called Tell No One which I absolutely love. You don't even realise you're reading subtitles the stories so good.

Might not be artsy, but it is one tense thriller.

La vita è bella

brilliant film.

^^This^^

A very moving, at times depressing, film. Ultimately uplifting and enlightening though.

Oldboy is another favourite of mine but for completely different reasons. The plot twist blew me away when I first saw it, in much the same way that the first viewing of The Usual Suspects kicks you up the ass at the end.

Le Concert.

I couldn't understand a word, but it didn't matter. I never watch foreign films either.

I was recommended Oldboy by countless friends, and I just couldn't finish it. Found it just... boring I guess. Never got the see the twist though so I'll give it another go as this thread raves about it.

I'll also be checking out that French film.

Cheers buddy!
