travelled with the mayneline for this one, great win, great support. season of the charlton 5-1 if memory serves me right. the coaches got escorted all the way to birmingham.
first stop after that, daft donald asked for a large bottle of champagne from the shelf behind the counter, woman passes it to him and he tips his hat and says "nice one" and promptly walks out of the shop. the whole queue realised this was the preffered method of payment and left fully loaded. class.

I remember we were kept in after the game and we were taking the piss out of Alan Ball (RIP) as he gave a post match interview on the pitch.

It was a Yelloways away day for me.
forgot about the alan ball bit, it was a rough day out i can remember the 657 crew waiting for us.

didn't go but I remember I was at the swimming baths with my dad at the time just anguishing over the result because it meant we could go into the Charlton game meaning a win would get us promoted.
We asked someone what the score was when we came out and the game over. "2-1 City" he said. I went crazy I was so happy.

And just to top it off the goal was on the news that night. Even had the old VHS recorder ready! Simmo's winner just seemed to me to be the best most unbelievably greatest goal scored in the world ever.

(I think he it was a chip over the keeper into the top corner)

Great memory. :)

Love the shots of the crowd after each goal - City fans going mental, and Pompey fans doing the same when they scored too.
looks like a bomb has gone off when simmo scores bodies flying everywhere, the good old days.

Yep, it was a few years before I started going home and away games properly so missed out on a lot of cracking away days in the early-mid 80's. That looked like a fantastic season for away trips. In those days not many games were covered by the TV cameras but I remember us playing Oxford around March at their place when Oxford were going for promotion with us. We got walloped 3-0 and the coverage on the main news that night centred on some blues deciding to dissect the fence surrounding the away end!

i was there that day quite a few of us from duky hired a minibus stopped on way down had a few, 1 lad was with us didn't drink a lot so he got to drive to ground it got a bit rough after match and police kept us in and told us coaches had been moved to station and we'd get an escort off em i told this copper our driver a'int moved ours cos he's bloody stood here anyhow he let us go and all the pompey dickheads were round the station and we got away no bother did take us till 4am to get home tho. think this was same season that ref think he was called willis copped for a meat and potato pie round the earhole for sending andy may off against oldham happy days.

Yelloways for me too that day. Wasn't there somebody stabbed outside Fratton Station after the game?

correct, the footage shown is from the news, showing the goals on a saturday night was a rare thing, unless news related. ie the stabbing and violence related.
