Staying at Hotel Novum near main train station. Will be getting there at about midnight Wednesday. We will want a copule of pints so should we head straight for the Reeperbahn or is there enough going on near the Hotel. After the match on Thursday we will probally go down the Reeperbahn anyway.

Not the best area tbh (junkies, gays, muslims), but you can try Nagels Bierstuben (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bodega-nagel.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bodega-nagel.de</a>) just around the corner of your hotel. Otherwise the S-Bahn just needs 9 mins to the Reeperbahn (taxi maybe 10-12 mins).

Woah, woah, woah, be careful on here pal. They'll be on you like a tramp on a kipper!!

Oh dear, I hope you're not in England mate; the police will already be on their way round if you are. You should probably make a run for it!!

Indeed, I have a lot of Gay Muslim friends who would be distraught at the idea of them
two words being used.

decent bars nr the reeperbahn?

We'll no doubt be drinking near the reeperbahn and not travelling off to different parts of Hamburg - but probably want to avoid spending too much time/money in the English/Irish bars etc.

Any Hamburg residents on who can recommend some smaller german bars off to the side of the reeperbahn or a few mins walk away that are cheaper/better.
Names of bars or maybe the names of a street or two that has some decent local bars on it would be great.

Sorry guys don´t mean it in a bad way. I´ve no probs with gays or muslims anyway but I also don´t fancy to go to a gay pub or to a mosque-thing and that´s what the area is about.
So SORRY to all I might have treated wrong

Große Freiheit 29, Hamburg
The Beatles used to frequent that pub virtually every night during their sojourn in Hamburg in the early 60s.
1 min walk from Reeperbahn station.
