Homegrown rule??

i think its a great rule as it means the city team will be built on mainly english/ british players which will benifit the national teams, i mean look at adam johson the only reason hes in the england squad is because we took a chance on him and it paid off

Im afraid that is not true as "home grown" only means that the 8 have to have been trained in England or Wales for 3yrs prior to being 21. However, they can be of ANY nationality. IMO this will just make it imperative that clubs sign up youngsters from around the globe as early as possible.

that maybe true but it is having an affect on clubs look at the english players were trying to buy liverpool buying british, chelsea and even asrenal looking at english players which is great as their finally getting a chance at the big clubs

17 of the registered 25 are not restricted. The other eight only have to have been in England for 3yrs prior to being 21. IMO you over exaggerate the affect, if any, that this will have on the national team. In the short term clubs will try to buy players that fit the home grown rule and they may well be predominatly English. However, in the mid to long term IMO this will encourage an influx of players from around the globe at young ages and this will be detrimental to the national side.

i.e. Fabregas and all the other non-english players @ Arsenal. All will be classed as home grown even though England can't pick them

Now it's a bit clearer, never understood why Irish players were considered as home grown.

May Already be covered but if I remember rightly, its either a british player or someone who has trained in ANY Accadamy for 3 years while under 21.

So you can buy a young foriegn player and they are classed as homegrown if they were trained in the UK.

Does anyone know how they got round EU freedom of movement/labour rules with this? I know they have it in other European countries too, so there's obviously some sort of get out clause?
