How Much Do You Gamble?

Slag me off but I only bet on rags. Emotionally it works for me (happy out of pocket - peeved = few quid consolation). Put £200 on them winning the league before the Stoke game in 2012. I knew Stoke would get something out of us and then the odds for them winning the league would go even shitter. I was right - Crouch scored that mad goal. Best £200 I ever lost :)

Edit: makes me seem like a big gamble man - 200 is by far the biggest bet I ever placed. Think I've done 50 once. I just really wanted us to win the league that year.

I bet about £30 a week.

I love it. Footy and Horses.

I never ever go over my £30 and if i do win (which is quite often, thankfully) it all goes into a savings account so I can see the fruits of my labour :-)

I enjoy studying my bets, writing them out, watching them.... Its all great!

Annoys me how people look down at gambling like its a bad thing. Its a bad thing if you get addicted like anything else.

For me its fun, always has been and ive never ever chased a bet or put more money on than what I could afford to lose.

I think if you expect to lose the money you put on it makes it easier. I dont bet just to win. I bet for the enjoyment of the whole process.

I do the grand national and i did the bet 365 champions league one where it was impossible to lose, they banned me for it so i don't do anything now! I really don't see the enjoyment in it, but can understand how some people are hardwired to be addicted to that buzz.
I don't understand how people go to casinos for a good night out either, i was in one the other week and a casino at 2am is one of the saddest places on earth

I used to bet often but am cautious.
I would Hoover up all the good information I could get from racing publications and study sports like NFL which threw up good opportunities.
Honestly can say that I'm ahead lifetime (biggest win 2k, biggest loss £800 both on spreads).

Then I found I couldn't devote the time to study the form and trends any more and just gave up.
Still watch tons of sport and horse racing but just never feel the urge to bet. I need the reassurance that I've done my homework or I don't feel good placing a bet and would rather sit it out.

Only football and I only really bet on our league rivals. Not much more than £20-30 tops but usually less. If they lose I'm not that bothered about losing a tenner and if they win at least I get something out of it.

It doesn't really make sense because if I enjoy them losing and I've staked some cash on it I would enjoy it even more with a tenner in my pocket, but it's a type of emotional insurance I suppose.

Nothing, other than a couple of quid on the lottery. Matched betting is the way forward.......

Great post. I too love a bet and do so in moderation. I bet what I can afford to lose and some seasons I lose but some I win.

I bet regular on football and I have my more serious bets which could be up to £50 bets but I also have a regular £5, 4 draw accumulator which wins between £500-£600 if it hits. Hit it twice in the last 3 seasons.

If people can't control their gambling then it's an issue but the same can be said of drinking, eating and a host of other things that can be destructive if not done in moderation.

A day at the races is great fun and so is gambling in general as long as it's all balanced.

Exactly.

I don’t get people who put loads on red or black at casinos or spend hours on fruit machines in the pub. I don’t see any fun in that.

That’s a totally different type of gambling to me and something I have no interest in.

But gambling on the football and horses is fantastic. Winning is just a bonus. I see it that I’m paying for the excitement it brings and the enjoyment i have before hand studying. If I win that’s just a bonus.

I don’t expect my money back after a few drinks or if i go for a meal....

As a spotty faced youth in a bookies for the first time, I looked at the runners board with my pal it had 14 runners and I remember turning to him and saying.

The bookie has 13 horses running.

I decided then that was not a rational proposition and why they make so much money. I would rather spend it on spot cream and adidas trainers.

My mate got a winner that day and still donates weekly to their profit margin.

He only ever talks about the winning lines. Funny that.

Mugs game, funny how they tell you when they have a win, but never when they lose which is more often.

It's only a mugs game if you're expecting to win or think you can make a profession out of it.
For me it adds a little extra to my Saturday afternoon and if i win, its a bonus. If i lose, well
no big deal as i'm not bankrupting myself.
