Regardless of how much money you have, you can't build a strong squad in just over 2 seasons - it takes time, and more importantly consistent management (so let's not swap Mancini for Mourinho). You can build a great starting 11 (on paper), but an the indepth building of the squad will take about 4-5 seasons.

I don't understand the cap stat as argument - perfectly irrelevant as to the ability. But yes, de Jong for me is clearly better than Carrick.
