Over the last few years, most of the ex England internationals we have signed seemed to have left their capability at the signature table.

Mills
McManaman
Fowler
Vassell

for one reason or another, they never did deliver what was anticipated of them, and I think that is what so infuriating for fans who know that players have demonstrated in the past that they can do "the business" but seem to have lost it either through commitment, injury or just plain out of form. You can also include any other player into this last scenario too.

In the main we've signed them after their peak, so it's not surprising they've been a let down. Vassell wasn't too bad when we signed him, we were looking at lesser quality players back then and for approx £2m he wasn't a bad signing at all. Now, when we apparently have our sights on European qualification and eventually the Champion's League, Vassell isn't up to the standard.

Vassell was a good signing at first. Linked up well with Cole and scored some goals. Since then he's been awful like the rest of them.
