Would be somewhat offset if that fanciful Rodwellpluscash for Barkley rumour had legs...

Simplest way of looking at it IMO;

Negredo - Atletico £25m (+25m)
Rodwell/£15m - Everton £25m (+50m)
Barkley - Manchester £25 (+25m)
Yaya/£15m - Monaco £30m (+55m)*
James - Manchester £60m (-5m)
* Yaya conservatively valued at £15m due to age.

So a net loss of £5m, Negredo and Yaya for Barkley and James.... Leaving us;

GK: Hart, Wright
FB: Zabaleta, Sagna, Richards, Kolarov, Clichy
CB: Kompany, Demichelis, Nastasić, Rekik, Boyata
DM: Fernando, Garcia
CM: Fernandinho, Barkley, Milner
AM/W: Silva, James, Nasri, Navas, Sinclair
CF/S: Agüero, Džeko, Jovetic, Guidetti

As great as it would be to have James and Barkley with us, the above team still leaves us desperately short of a quality 2nd keeper and at centre back. IMO, it's not worth it.

Rodwell for 15M lmao.
Jovetic is more of an AM (Trequartista) or an Inside Forward, so would compete for those spots.

In any case, in this windows those sort of deals are near impossible even if the valuations were correct.

Moreover, would James want to play for us? Would Monaco sell?

If he remains at Monaco for this season and if he doesn't go to Real next season, even then if we were to sign him I think it would be to replace Nasri. You can't play 4222 and have Silva, Nasri, Jovetic and James competing for 2 spots.
If you read it property, it's actually Rodwell (£10m) and £15m to the Toffees for Barkley in a composite £25m deal... And that's the press-generated rumour - not my own thinking - which as I said, is fanciful.

The Daily Mail just completely deleted that Rodriguez for 60M story from their website - now replaced by some trivial Liverpool story. Interesting.

The only way we could get him is by offering them Yaya and £20m from the Negredo sale.

That will leave us a striker short but more loaded in attacking midfield so we would be relying on James getting goals and assists.

It will also lleave us a CM short. It will also imply that we'll have only 1 CM (Fernandinho) and 2 DMs (Garcia and Fernando). Not counting Rodwell and Milner

By your maths, we would receive 25m for jack rodwell...

Great ideas all spoilt by the inclusion of Swedish John in there.

Surely nobody is still clinging to Guidetti as the great white hope ?
