Labour is back in the centre ground of British politics and ready to offer the country a "fresh start" under his leadership, Sir Keir Starmer will say.
In his speech to his party's annual conference, Sir Keir will claim to have transformed Labour into a party in tune with the majority of voters.

Without a left in the Party, who's going to stop Labour turning into the US Democrats?
There was some interesting research about values of MPs, members and voters a while back. I've seen some where Labour MPs views are actually to the left of most of their members, but this one still gives a good idea:

Labour MPs appear to be pretty much in tune economically with the people who vote for them, and their members, and while they're left of all voters, they're still within touching distance.

If you Google those left/right political compass charts, The Democrats would be economically well to the right - not too far from the Tory party - while Labour is well to the left. If you look at the background of Labour MPs, so many are charity/voluntary sector, public sector, unions etc. These kind of people aren't going to turn into Tories just because Laura Pidcock isn't acting as some kind of moral conscience.

The disconnect between Tory MPs and the people who vote is the real problem.

Worked last time for most people.

We have been down that route. If they don't believe in changing it they don't believe in fairness. They want power even if they don't have sufficient support of the people. He's in it for himself and the long-term future of the country is a side issue.

They're like the tories but just with a different demographic.

When I say they I mean those on his team rather than the Labour Party in general.
The PR referendum held in 2011 was beaten 2:1
The Tories paid lip service to Clegg's crew to hold the referendum and helped make it a forgone conclusion that it would lose.

Could be the Starmer believes it's better/fairer but doesn't help to win the next GE.
Number 1 priority is to kick Thick Lizzy (if she's still there) and the rest out as soon as possible by as big a majority as possible.
There will be enough to do in the first term to stop the shitshow and start recovery, then get a second term to make things better all round.
