The problems are that a lot of the knocked off gear is being run by crime syndicates with the drug dealing and turf wars that ensue, that and the fact that the top films pay ridiculous wages to actors and have to try and recoup their extragagent lifestyles off those that want the product.
I am well aware that it takes a nerd with a far greater understanding of pooters to dream up the graphics etc for games and programmes for the like of nintendo, but £40 for one game is a rip off and so others will copy these games and sell at a much reduced cost.
Reduce the profit margin (i.e. the price) of the genuine article and thus reduce the demand for the counterfeit, thereby having greater turnover and the same profit margin.
Where smokes and booze are concerned, reduce the taxation on these products, reduce the number of smuggled and counterfeit goods being sold, more genuine fags = same levels of income for HMG to waste on pointless consultancy fees.
