Canal+ France aired a documentary about Anelka and two of his childhood friends who have also forged big careers (one as a comedian the other as an actor) last night. Was a fascinating insight into what he's like off the field. Came across as a really sound, down to earth, lad. Very unlike your average British prem league footballer.
There's a fascinating part where the three friends talk about racism in France, how they feel as second generation Africans about their place within French culture. Dare I say it, it was a pretty intellectual conversation and I had a moment of watching Anelka speak and being shocked at how different he is from his "image".
Anyway, if you get the chance to check it out, it's well worth a watch.
