Could it work? Well, seems Kendal Town are willing to be our test dummies. They've just signed a sponsorship deal with a company that makes fake beards, and have been training in them as a result. Given that on the image below you can see that the beard company ("Rosetta") are not their shirt sponsors, it looks like this is honestly a...beard...sponsorship...?

Honestly this feels like it should be a joke, but I'm not sure that it is:

Kendal Town strike sponsorship deal with fake beard company

Northern Premier League side Kendal Town have signed a sponsorship deal with a fake beard-making company - prompting some of the more unusual promotional pictures ever seen in English football.

Kendal supporters will probably be hoping this whole story's a fake and not just the beards, as the club's new deal guarantees they will be the butt of many jokes this season.

The Cumbria side's players donned the comedy beards and red hats for a photoshoot after agreeing a partnership with Rosetta, who specialise in fake beard manufacturing.

Former Hull City player and Kendal Town captain Marc Joseph said: 'Obviously we can’t play in them but we can travel, train and warm-up wearing them.

'Then we go clean shaven. We have had all the cracks... "missed by a whisker", "close shaves", all that.'

The Antiguan international is not worried about what others think about the new look, though.

He added: 'We have had some funny looks but we love them.'

Rosetta chief Steve Keable said he was confident the beards would become a big success in the UK and added they thought Kendal was a perfect partner for them as they were based in the same town.
