Yes, I remember the Capitol - it was a big place, quite luxurious I suppose.
Ah, the names, suffused with the warm glow of nostalgia......

The Casino and the Trocadero in Rusho;me
The Kingsway (on Kingsawy...)
The Lido in Burnage
The Scala in Withington
The Palatine, West Didsbury
The Coronation (I think) in Northenden
The Regent (in the back streets of Hulme)
The Electra, Cheadle
The Elysian, Cheadle Hulme
The Tatton, Gatley. You couldn;t move for bloody picture palaces then......

I miss the Roxy in Failsworth. It's a petrol station now - though there is a bit of the original wall remaining around the back.

Thunderbirds movie was my first film at the Fourways in New Moston.

Oldest cinema I've ever been to was in Leeds as was being used to show a Miyazaki movie and documentary for part of the international film festival held each year.

Cottage Rd. Cinema has been in continuous operation since 1912.

Growing up in Withington, most of my cinema experiences were in the Scala/Cine City. A little later on as a budding music journalist I interviewed a Macclesfield band called Marion. Lovely lads. Apparently the photo on the sleeve of their second single Sleep was taken inside Cine City:

That and The Hyde Park Picture House are both stunning buildings. Frequented both a lot whilst at uni.

Something about ice cream in tubs that you only tasted the wood of the spoon from too.

When I was a kid growing up in Failsworth we had 'The Pop' on Oldham Road near the Pole. Official name was The Popular Palace but nobody I knew called it that. Saturday afternoon matinées watching Batman, Zorro, Three Stooges etc. Happy days. Later closed down and reopened as Sinatra's nightclub - a rather poor competitor to the Broadway Club further down the road (formerly the Grand cinema and then temporary RC Church whilst St Mary's was being relocated).
IIRC the first film I ever saw at the Pop was Treasure Island, starring Robert Newton. Showing my fecking age now :-)

There was a small cinema behind where the Colin Bell stand is now , it was called the rowsley ( or possibly the Moseley)

We used to walk to the Roxy every saturday (or was it sunday) afternoon to watch the matinee.
Lurch was very mean. He could have been one of my school teachers if he had only applied himself more.

The New Royal in Beswick right over the road from where our stadium is now.

Used to go as a kid every Saturday morning. Loved it!
