Going through some old family stuff and got hold on my Nans Birth Certificate and found she was born on Thornley Street in Bradford in 1911.

I then used the link below and the geographoca 1960 map that can be overlayed on todays map and discovered that the street is where todays modern day Summerbees Bar stands at the Etihad.

Interesting to look at the map for others im sure so posted the link below.Shame it does not cover the whole of Gorton,if anyone has a similar map of Gorton to Denton can you post a link also.

Great find. Just spent half an hour reminiscing. Spent first 5 or 6 years of my life in Barlow St. just off grey mare lane. Learnt to swim in Barmouth St. baths although I thought it was miles away at the time it was only round the corner.

My dad was born and raised on Ryder Street, right in the bottom corner of the map, just off Ashton Old Road/ Grey Mare Lane.
Fascinating stuff.

Can't find Vera street where my dad was brought up he went to ravensbury street school. Some years ago the area on the map had a big impact on my life so can't look at it to long bad memories, plus her hubby might post on here lol.

This is an 1874 map I use for family research. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite reach the area of the main stadium, but does cover the regional arena area. That is on what was once a fustian mill, and the reservoir for the Manchester & Salford Waterworks. You can also see that the River Medlock used to head off north, while the Manchester & Stockport canal went east.
