Poor treatment of bar staff

In the cheap seats the bar staff are dreadful and change it seems every game, probably due to all the shit they take, it's the same at places like Wembley as well not just City.

Training and paying enough to encourage them to return would be a good idea. Every game it's like they've never pulled a pint/used a til before.

Onto the posher areas...I was in one if the bars last season for the Leicester away game (club did free tickets) and the staff were a big step up on the normal bars.

Bullying is rubbish and any complaints either directly with the club or agency should be looked at and investigated fully.

Unfortunately bullying doesn't stop at school. Most managers aren't taught how to manage and they just learn on the job or how they themselves have been (poorly) managed. I've been a manager (in a different industry, but still a high pressure environment) and had to step in more than once to protect my staff from bullying directors (and customers) before now, because they can't handle it appropriately, at the risk of my own position and even at the risk of physical violence towards me. Most managers won't risk their own jobs to do this. Many (in the whole management chain) fail to see the correlation between contented and supported staff with better performance and reliability.

For the employee, there are very few places to go to get support. Fellow workers in hospitality also tend to be young and inexperienced so they don't have the life skills to handle being victimized. I doubt there'll be much welfare or union representation either. Kids today are brought up to be told issues like this can be solved easily by reporting it, but I'm afraid it isn't always the case in the real world.

Report it by all means, but I would say you're wasting your time.

I think you're more than within your rights to defend your daughter and raise this issue on here. Whether it's by impatient members of the public or by demanding bosses who don't understand the reality of a shop floor, service workers in retail and hospitality get treated like shit. The matchday staff at City aren't the quickest workers in the world and they're hardly the most passionate either, but expecting them to be eager workers when they're paid a shit wage for a high demand job - and treated like garbage by those previously mentioned bosses who hide behind bureaucratic red tape when called upon - is probably unreasonable. Hope you can keep pushing and get what you need out of this situation.

This type of stuff makes my blood boil. Please mate, make an issue of this and don't be fobbed off. Bully boys thinking they're hard with decent youngsters is disgraceful. On a side note, can people stop slagging off the bar staff as well. Serving the masses pre match and half time must be a nightmare so cut them a bit of slack please folks.

I posted a tread this week about the poor treatment my daughter and others have been subjected to but
was pulled my Ric as I went into far too much detail for his liking.

So this time I.
1 won't name my daughter.
2 won't mention which bar/bars she worked in.
3 won't mention dates of when culture changed for the worse.
4 Name and shame manger/mangers responsible.
5 Take full responsibility for following thread.

For many a year now we have all experienced poor service from bar staff at city including
myself there are some who only work there for the money and there are many like my daughters
and friends love city but also need a little extra money to get them through uni.
My daughter who used to attend games with me until she was 16 took a job working at city
like her sister and 3 friends.
But for a period of time now has been treated/spoken/ like shit and belittled in teams meeting.
Less than a year ago her and 2 others received an award for outstanding customer service based
on fan feedback which shows how much they were regarded by fans in the bars they worked.
But at the Fa cup game Sunday could no longer but up or take it anymore and walked
out on a job she absolutely loved and on more than one occasion come home in tears.

And before you ask yes they would bring up regarding treatment they would receive only to be told
to shut up and if they didn't like knew where the door was and you wonder why there is such a high
turnover of good hard working staff.

Ric you say this should be taken up with city. It has and nothing has change you also say this is
not the place for such a tread to name and shame. So I have now removed all details.

This is Bluemoon where we fans get the opportunity to discuss all manner of subjects.
If we don't allow such treads to be discussed how is anything ever going to change?

Its not OK for grown men and woman to bully young girls and boys because your only 16/20
and on minimum wage because they know you need the job and money.

Give you the fans a chance to read and discuss.
Give the club a chance to read discuss and reply.
Give those responsible for running our catering service to read and reply.

I been a member of this site for many a year season ticket holder for over 30
I don't have an agenda about our great club but if we all don't stand up against
this shocking culture nothing is going to change let's together get it changed please.

More than happy to meet you or any other from site club or catering firm to discuss further.

Regards mark
Great post

Pay peanuts you get monkeys. Not even monkeys with half a brain sometimes. The club don't help and it is poorly run but some of them don't know their arse from their elbows.

Hospitality is probably as important to the club as anything else. Revenue from hospitality is huge and the prospect of gaining extra from shop sales or from corporate advertising is massive!
Whichever bar your daughter works in she is part of the hospitality experience and as such will be regarded by the club as a most important member of the team. The fact she has won awards will show hospitality hierarchy that she is of some importance to them and the club.
You say the club is aware of this issue and I am sure they will be looking into it. Someone from the club will no doubt have seen this thread also and reported it to the higher echelons. Hopefully they will look into the issues and if bullying is found out to be occurring then the manager(s) concerned should be the ones in trouble.

At the OP was your daughter singled out for bad treatment or was it general across the team?

I would guess that managers must be under pressure if fans constantly complain about the standards of service at bars but ranting at minimum wage workers who only work at the club one a fortnight is unlikely to be productive.

If your daughter is reliable, turns up on time and works hard and keeps coming back then that should be acknowledged as a lot of workers would not do so. I think it would be useful to give workers who prove themselves a higher rate as they are far more useful than those who are new to the job.

Is she employed directly by the club or through an agency?

The club executive and management have introduced the ‘City Deal’ as an initiative to promote a culture of respect amongst staff members and towards customers (ie fans).
This allegation of bullying will therefore hopefully be fully investigated. Good luck to u2fme2 and his daughter
