Well that's a no win game, have to absolutely humiliate them and show them who's boss.

Why? Unlike the NYCFC fans, the Melbourne City fans are actually relatively happy to be linked to us and have no issue with the idea of us taking their best academy players and so on in future if we keep feeding them players they wouldn't have found otherwise. Why do we need to humiliate them?

That's very interesting because there were reports at first that Melbourne fans didn't like all those image changes.

P.S. Is there any info on whether this behind closed doors game will be broadcasted or not?

They were split 50-50 at first. Half of them actually wanted the Heart to have had a more English identity in the first place - in fact, one of the bidding groups for the second Melbourne franchise was campaigning for a team called Melbourne City FC - and half wanted their Heart back. There's occasional talk of some fans abandoning their support over their identity change, but mostly they seem to have just adapted to it. Those who never quite took to the Heart identity were happy with the change, those who did have built a rationale based on vague evidence and specific wording of articles that says the Heart was a different club which ceased to exist when the licence was sold. They can therefore give it their begrudging support as the replacement to Melbourne Heart without having to pretend that the identity of the former has been ripped away by the latter.

That all happened a year ago, though, and they don't mention it much now. After a year of peturbance over the poor squad CFG gave them last season they are feeling somewhat more assuaged by the training facilities CFG have built them, and the higher-level signings they've so far acquired. There is still some lingering resentment that NYCFC gets Pirlo and they get Robbie Koren, but most of them are willing to simply shrug their shoulders and accept it because A) unlike those in New York they have no belief that A-League has any chance of ever becoming a top-level league and therefore they have much lower aspirations and B) because they are willing to accept that the project may take some time and that eventually they will get the star marquees they dream of.

The key question this pre-season is who's going to do the video diary this season? They were some of the best video's the site has produced in my opinion and offer a great little insight into what it's like day to day, who's friends with who etc. The last few years it's been mostly the English contingent in our ranks, predominantly Lescott, Micah, Milner and Hart with the likes of NDJ and Ballotelli added in that have done them. With Only Joe left from that group who's going to step up? Or will it all be left to Chappy?
