RIP Billy McNeil

Very sad news. I couldn't believe it when City managed to appoint such a giant of the game at such a juncture in our history but what a great job he did in such very difficult circumstances. Everybody could understand his decision to leave the club and go to Villa, but unfortunately their circumstances were nearly as straitened as ours and their chairman.... RIP Billy a true giant of the game.

The BBC excelled themselves yet again. They put the shittest grainiest image they could find of Billy, Jim Melrose and Neil McNab on North west tonight. The picture wasn't fit for purpose. He deserved better than that. Lazy and disrespectful journalism.

Billy signed three players shortly after joining City -- Neil McNab, Jim Tolmie and Derek Parlane (ironically, a former Rangers player), when we'd just been relegated and had very little money. Parlane scored a hat-trick v Blackburn in the sixth game of 1983-84, and McNab was a pretty good midfielder. Tolmie started off brightly but is now chiefly remembered for his hairdo and his contribution to Bluemoon usernames.
Not bad signings, given our finances then.

Parlance, free transfer and Tolmie, £30,000 scored 20 goals in the first 11 games that season.
They were unstoppable.
34 for the season between them.
Then it all went wrong.

Was going to post something very similar. Couldn't believe we'd appointed such a legend to manage our club. He's with another legend, Alan Ball now. RIP Billy.
