What profession are you in? Do you hate it on a daily basis? Do you wake up and feel excited to go to work? Do you wish you had done something different at school/college/uni? Do you still have time to change it all and find a new path?

I finished uni in 2007 and am yet to find work using my B.A. I took a long happy year off doing absolutely nothing after from 2007-08 and if I could do one thing differently, it would have been not to do that, and completely immerse myself in interning, or job-hunting, and even starting a master's degree.

I still wait tables and have worked in casinos, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants for over a decade now. I don't consider it a profession at all, certainly not a career, and as someone approaching 30, it's nice to know that I have made a promise to get out and get on soon!!!

Firefighter and previous to that was in the RAF, don't worry too much you will have many jobs and I think that's a good thing, variety is the spice of life, I think you can get stale by staying in a job too long. The way employers these days work to me as well, is that they don't want people for 30-40 years, it's cheaper in the long run for them to use you and either burn you out or piss you off that you want to leave and find something else.

I get to play with people's piss and shit.. work for United Utilities as an engineer on wastewater pumping stations, decent job if you can get covered in people's shit, piss and other nasties (just think whatever you may have put down the toilet in your lifetime) and cope with it! I tend to laugh it off and it's a hell of a lot better than when I was in the motor trade, plus only have to work weekends if standby falls on either of the days, so never miss a game :) `

I like your train of thought, my only query/issue would be that you are advocating insecurity there surely....

Finances are tough, so at least some job stability/security is good in the short run. I suppose you aren't guaranteed tomorrow at any job these days, but I'd like to work for a place again (have been at one) where I have benefits, insurance, and security.
