Society as we know it to collapse within 20 years

A mate of mine said something to me about 20 years ago which has never left me, and I remember thinking that it was such an odd view to have on life...

"Expect the worst, and you'll never be disappointed"

Sounds like he might have had a point!
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

All governments should make sure that Defence, Transport, and Public Health Services are always adequately staffed and funded.

When was the last time a UK Conservative or Labour government achieved (or even made a genuine effort to achieve) that?

Yep, If You work with the general public like I did for over 20 years you’ll have seen the decline in our society, this has been exacerbated within I’d say the last 5 years or so, our inner cities are a mess, you might see gleaming high rises but look closer to the ground, fucking rubbish everywhere, homeless, people with heads in their phones, who would rather film than help someone, take a look at the car smash in Birmingham the other night where 4 died there loads of footage and in all of it no one makes an attempt to help anyone in the cars but they’ve all git their cameras out, I experienced that loads in work, it’s disgusting. Prices are through the roof for everything if you are glass half full type good for you but I’m a bit long in the tooth to think this will get better, why, because people don’t care enough about each other.
Gotham City soon come

I bet it will happen before that. Hopefully i will be around to see it. Already we can clearly see how modern technologies play crucial roles in our lives and how we can't live without internet and our devices. I don't know anout you guys, but i personally contact shark customer service uk once a week at least, cause can not imagine my life without help of their devices.

very soon this thread is going to be shunted off into the politics subforum,
a place where nobody with any sense wanders into.

before it does...

i'm 59 and never once taken to the ballot box.
i really don't understand why people vote.
they are mugging us off with their pretend democracy.
by voting you perpetuate the problem.

divide and conquer.
we argue amongst ourselves about the shit they reign down on us.
meanwhile they continue to take the piss.
we are all slaves.

i don't see how voting for another ugly tosser will help.
and let's be frank, all politicians are ugly looking.
unattractive actors good at remembering their lines,
lines that someone else wrote for them.

i'd happily vote if there was a box at the bottom of the ballot slip that said
"none of the above"
but that's not going to happen, is it,
so what are we left with?

... stare into your mobile phone.
ignore what's really going on.
stroll through endless unfunny memes.
the zombification of a nation.

the McDiabetes generation.

i'm not arsed looking up the exact figures,
but at a guess i reckon 20% of what you spent today was taxed.
one fifth of every penny was stolen by the so-called government.
yet we have no say over what they spunk all that money on.

the elected tossers are so bad at their job they regularly get removed
and are possibly/probably guilty of even breaking the law.
people who nobody voted for replace them and are fully in charge.
they get several years to do whatever they please.

the tossers you vote for become murderers.
it's part of the job...
well, these foreign types over there are revolting,
let's drop bombs on them.

society packed its bags and left a long time ago.
we've all been trained to shut up and work hard.
we are all slaves,
except they give us not-just-enough money to survive on.

still,
keep voting for your own demise,
keep kidding yourselves that things might change for the better,
keep on keeping on.
