I remember this from a similar thread from way back. The clubs explanation 'the eagle is taken from the Mayors chain, which holds the sheild. The eagle represents protection of the city, the shield, the three lines are the rivers Irk Irwell Medlock the ship, reprsents trade.
To answer aquestion from a week or so ago, the ship doesn't have flags at each end it has one, the other end is a sail.
