The Mendy/Sané conundrum

If it doesn't work just buy a left back who can defend well in the Summer. We've got the best young left winger in Europe who now works his arse off for the team too. Not worth sacrificing for an unproven (in England) left back.
Yep

The Mendy/Sane myth.

They've started 3 times together in the last 2 seasons. We won them games by wn aggregate 16-1, opponents were Palace last season, Southampton and Burnley this season ( Mendy picked up his first injury in Palace game. )

In the games they started together this season Mendy has one assist, to Sane.

Sane has a goal and 2 assists from these fixtures.

Mendy also assisted Sane to score when he came on against Liverpool in the 5-0.

Of course he can fucking defend.

Also does anyone think Pep Guardiola made Benjamin Mendy the most expensive LB in history without considering if he'd be able to play with our only left wing?

Oh right. Didn't look like it against Spurs and Wolves. Even the way he positioned himself was completely wrong for a fullback. I do hope he can though

You forgot Southampton but then you also forgot his good defensive displays against Liverpool and the rags too.

Our left backs often position themselves completely wrong for LBs because that's what Pep wants them to do.

See Danilo playing as a #10 for most of the Burnley game as an example. It is difficult for someone like Delph to play in midfield with the ball, and revert back to being a LB, it is even harder for someone like Mendy who contributes in the final third as well.

Mendy had a couple of dodgy moments when he was trying to learn the system, but he's a good defender, he showed that in France and when he played a more traditional role in bigger games for us.
